Original Akira Opening Night Movie Poster

Set in a dystopian version of 2019, Akira follows Kaneda Shotaro, the head of a biker gang in Neo-Tokyo. After his close friend Shima Tetsuo begins developing telekinetic abilities after a motorcycle accident, Kaneda rushes to rescue him from the government being pulled into a series of events involving Akira, the esper that destroyed the original Tokyo. Akira is based on a manga of the same name, though it differs quite significantly in later plot points. Both are masterpieces and have wide-ranging influences worldwide.
