The exhibition “Mangasia: Wonderlands of Asian Comics” presents the largest ever selection of original artworks from Asian comics, displayed alongside their printed, mass-produced forms. Many of them are rarely, if ever, shown outside their country of origin.
Thematic sections contrast the diversity of fantastical folklore, real history and daring experimentation in comics from across the whole region. The sections trace the impact of printed comics on live-action and animated film and television, music, games, fashion, as well as contemporary art.
In collaboration with Barbican, London, we shared some of our cel-ga, books and woodblock prints published in the Edo period that had a direct impact on manga as we know it today. The exhibition is currently on tour and will be exhibited at The Design Society in Shenzhen, China from March to June 2019. We will continue to publish exhibition updates and documentation on our website.
