'The Kabuki Eighteen' is a collection of plays established by Ichikawa Danjuro VII that are representative of the special 'aragoto' acting style of the Danjuro kabuki line of actors. The Danjuro line has continued to dominate the leading roles, and the printing and production of these plays ever since. In the Meiji period other acting families began to gather their most successful plays into similar collections. This series by Kiyotada Torii VII presents the leading actor of the day, Ichikawa Danjuro IX in famous roles, some of which are still popular and performed today.
