Fishing boats sail near the steep cliffs of Honmoku in the eastern capital in search of fish and shellfish. A small spread of cherry trees blooms on the distant hills surrounding the fishing town with Mount Fuji in the background. This print boasts a beautiful composition of light and shadow: while the foreground shows the sunny sea, the hills in the background just below Mt. Fuji are cast in shadow, only revealing the soft pink color of the blooming cherry blossom trees. Hiroshige places the viewer directly in the sea, giving us a unique and imaginative view of Mt. Fuji.
