Original Japanese woodblock print. 

This print shows a sailing boat and a natural stone arch that is a feature of Zaimokujima, a small islet belonging to a larger group of islands in Matsushima. A bright blue sky with a dramatic cloud formation is shown in the background along with another island of the Matsushima group. The boat and the rock arch are reflected in the calm sea.


Kawase Hasui was one of the important printmakers of the Shin Hanga (New Print) movement. He is best known for his landscape prints characterised by peaceful compositions.
