Ohara Koson was a prolific printmaker of the twentieth century widely known for his kacho-ga, bird and flower prints. During his study with Kason, he took his artist name Koson, a partial adaptation of his teacher’s name. In 1912, his artist name was changed to Shoson, and would change again to Hoson later in his career. The image shows a rainy night scene. Two sparrows huddle together before a shadowy backdrop of foliage.
