This print depicts a Japanese bathhouse, or sentō. Bathhouses such as the one here used to be, and still are, very common in Japan and play a big part in Japanese culture. Both the sensuality and social aspect of communal bathing are represented in this image. An original artwork from around 1868, the colours are soft and were created with the help of natural pigments.
