This netsuke of an oni (demon) is made entirely of wood. In Japanese folklore, oni is a type of ogre typically portrayed wearing a loincloth and sometimes holding a club. This oni is sitting on his left leg and holding his right leg with both hands. The carving shows his muscles in relief. His hair is carved in curly shapes at the back to show his wild nature. His face is contorted and he is gazing at his left. The two cord holes are are on his back.
