This netsuke made entirely out of wood shows a shishi (Chinese lion). The ears are laid back against the body, the brow is deeply furrowed above the glaring eyes, flared nostrils and bared teeth, his mouth holding a small loose ball. The shishi is crouching over a larger ball, claws gripping the surface. Although unsigned, this netsuke demonstrates a good level of artistry. The cord holes are at the bottom of the shishi’s right leg.
