First edition print.

The geisha here is dressed like a fashionable young man. As Yoshitoshi indicates in the title, it becomes her – she looks bright and charming in her unusual garments. Her hair in arranged in a young man’s topknot style. The fan she holds is also a man’s, as it bears a character (‘nikawa’ – unexpectedly) rather than a flower or a picture.

An extra tone of grey has been applied with a wet brush to a special printing block and used to overprint the grey sky, giving an effect of light cloud through which the moon shines. This is missing from later impressions of the design.
