Original Japanese woodblock print.
Tomikichiro Tokuriki was born in Kyoto, where he lived most of his life. He was trained as a painter of the Kano school, however, he was drawn to prints. Wishing to learn more about sosaku-hanga, he contacted a printer and block-cutter to discover more about the technique. His attitude towards woodblock printing is noteworthy, since he did not strictly adhere to the theoretical principles of sosaku-hanga much praised by his Tokyo contemporaries. Tokuriki was a prolific print artist throughout his life and was active in writing about print making and teaching until he was into his 90s.
