This print is part of Yoshitoshi’s series: 'Courageous Warriors'. It shows Sagaminokami Hojo Takatoki who is warding off a group of tengu with his fan. The tengu were fearsome creatures of Japanese folklore who took on characteristics of birds of prey.

 

This image boasts beautiful, flowing lines, dynamic poses typical of Yoshitoshi's style and brightly coloured fabrics with a variety of patterns.
