Katsuyuki Nishijima was born in 1945 in Yamaguchi prefecture of Japan. After studying woodblock printing with Mikumo publishing house in Kyoto, he experimented with stencil dyeing, then focused on woodblock printmaking in the sosaku-hanga style. Nishijima produces woodblock prints with themes that show the traditional side of Japan, from landscapes to townscapes captured from intriguing angles.
